From the up tempo beats of Trance and Happy Hardcore during his high school years, Rick's fascination with dance music began. Enthralled by the seamless blending of tracks, he purchased his first set of decks at 17. Self-taught and fuelled by passion, Rick immersed himself in mastering the art, initially gravitating towards the harder and faster beats of dance music.
In June 2002, Bar Beba in Macclesfield offered Rick his first live gig. However, there was a twist: they wanted House music. Using records borrowed from his close friend Mike Hewitt, Rick took on the challenge, marking the beginning of his deep affection for House Music. With his foundation in Trance and Hardcore, Rick introduced a distinctive style to his House mixes.
A dream beckoned Rick: to play in Manchester's iconic Gay Village. This dream turned into reality thanks to Anni Hogan, a significant figure known for her collaboration with Marc Almond and her residency at Spirit Bar on Canal Street, Manchester. After presenting Anni with a demo in February 2006, Rick found himself covering slots at Spirit, stepping in for mainstay DJs during their absences and on Bank Holidays. It was during one such performance that he caught the eye of the manager at Via Fossa on Canal Street. This serendipitous encounter led to a Sunday night residency, which quickly shifted to coveted Friday and Saturday slots due to his rising popularity.
Rick's journey further propelled him to become a resident DJ at The Eagle Bar in Manchester, where he pioneered and hosted the dynamic club night, BRAWN.
